HR Can Vamp Up Morale and Stifle Negative Stigma

Human Resources often get an unfair shake when it comes to the employees working for them. Why? For one, no one wants to get called to HR, which usually means bad things for that employee. Most employees’ think of Human Resources as a pie-job and the most they do is paperwork. But a lot more work is done by HR like paychecks, insurance, retirement questions and even morale. These are just to name a few. Because of some many other duties performed by HR sometimes employee morale gets pushed to the side. So here are a few ways to boost morale and help stifle the negative image of Human Resources.

Most all good employees just want a little recognition for a job well done. Who doesn’t want pay raises and promotions but that may not be something that HR can just give out willy-nilly. Just a well-meaning, “Thank you”, can go a long way with an employee. This can be in the way of cards, small gifts, or even gift cards to restaurants. Even just a simple, “Thank you”, spoken to an employee can help boost morale. If done in a highly visible way, such as a meeting, can inspire other employees to rise to the challenge. Keep in mind that some people are embarrassed by such public displays so it’s a good idea to know your employee before making that announcement public.

If you add value personally to your department then the stigma at some point will have to change. Treat your job as a job and the stigma will intensify. Enjoy your job and what you do. Your own attitude can boost morale.
